Saint Augustine, Florida

Soak up some rays in the Sunshine State and get yourself over to Saint Augustine in Florida. One of the biggest perks of visiting Florida is the great weather, but Saint Augustine brings a little more to the table. This is one of the USA’s oldest cities, with 450 years’ worth of stories to be told.

Due to this history, the city is known for having a distinctly European vibe, with cobble-stoned laneways and classic architecture instead of a sea of high-rises. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past though – Saint Augustine is full of contemporary, top-rated hotels and restaurants too.

Charlotte, North Carolina

One of the liveliest cities in this part of the USA, Charlotte is a southern gem. This is North Carolina’s lifeblood, a place where exciting culture meets good food, top attractions, and beautiful surrounding scenery. Plus, as the state’s buzzing metropolis, there are plenty of comfortable, affordable hotels in Charlotte.

Top sights include the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, Discovery Place (a science museum and IMAX theatre), and if you’re a fan of racing you’re in luck: the NASCAR Hall of Fame is here.

Corpus Christi, Texas

One of the state’s most beautiful coastal cities, Corpus Christi offers that unique blend of laid-back seaside vibe and modern living. A handful of different beaches here provide an array of things to do, from lying back listening to gentle waves on the sand, to catching some surf or trying a spot of fishing. Hotels here are dotted across the shoreline, so you can easily find one close to your perfect patch of coast.

For something a little more cultural for your stay in Corpus Christi, head over the Texas Maritime Museum, the South Texas Botanical Gardens, or the Texas Surf Museum.

Asheville, North Carolina

Leafy Asheville in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains is one of the most beautiful cities in the Deep South. Known for being artistic, Asheville is a top spot for culture-vulture travelers in the area, and the city’s hotels match that creative vibe.

There’s street art strewn all over the walls here and city’s River Arts District (also known as RAD) is full to the brim with galleries, exhibitions, and studios. Linger in Asheville to soak it all up – there’s so much to do here that it’s well worth staying awhile.

Memphis, Tennessee

Music lovers, look no further in the Deep South than Memphis, Tennessee. This city was made especially famous by one man in particular: Elvis Presley. Graceland, the legend’s former home, is here in Memphis, a good starting point for music fanatics traveling here.

Beale Street Historic District and the Memphis Rock N’ Soul Museum are two other highlights if you’re staying in Memphis to learn about its rhythm and blues. If you’re not in town for that reason, a stop at the National Civil Rights Museum of stroll in Shelby Farms might appeal. As a thriving city, there are numerous places to stay here, budget hotels all the way up to first-class luxury.
